How the conversion works

  1. 1

    Upload the statement

PDF (text or scanned), PNG, JPG, WEBP, DOCX or XLSX, up to 4.5 MB. PDFs can run to 100 pages, so a multi-page monthly statement goes up as one file.

  2. 2

    Review what was extracted

Account details, statement period, balances and every transaction found, each with a confidence score. Amounts should come back signed, debits negative and credits positive, so spot-check the signs.

  3. 3

    Download Excel or CSV

Excel puts transactions on their own sheet. Transactions CSV gives one row per transaction. JSON and a field-by-field CSV are there too.

What lands in the spreadsheet

This is the Transactions sheet for the product's fictional example statement (Example Bank (fictional)). Your columns follow the fields found on your statement.

Fields the converter looks for

  • ✓Bank name
  • ✓Account holder
  • ✓Account number (last 4 only)
  • ✓Routing number
  • ✓Statement period start
  • ✓Statement period end
  • ✓Beginning balance
  • ✓Ending balance
  • ✓Total deposits
  • ✓Total withdrawals
  • ✓Transactions (date, description, signed amount, balance where printed)
  • ✓Service charges
  • ✓Interest earned
  • ✓Overdraft / NSF fees
  • ✓Checks cleared
  • ✓Additional accounts on the same statement
  • ✓Statement footnotes

A field is only filled when it appears on the statement. Fields that are not printed come back empty.

Which banks and formats

There are no per-bank templates. The converter reads the statement layout itself, so it is not tied to a list of supported banks, and a new layout is not automatically a problem. It also means no bank's layout is guaranteed.

Convert one statement from each bank and account type you use, reconcile it, and then do the rest. Password-protected PDFs need the password removed first.

Check before you import

We don't publish an accuracy percentage. Results depend on the layout and scan quality, and every field comes with a confidence score to tell you where to look first.

  • →Beginning balance + deposits − withdrawals should equal the ending balance.
  • →The transaction count should match the statement, page by page.
  • →Debits should be negative and deposits positive.

The free statement validator runs a balance-reconciliation check on figures you enter.

Bank statement converter FAQ

Is the bank statement converter free?

Your first 3 documents are free after you create an account, with no credit card. Paid plans start at $9 per month. Each uploaded statement file uses one document, and a failed extraction does not use one up. You can load the built-in sample without an account.

Can I convert a scanned or photographed bank statement?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and PNG, JPG or WEBP images go through OCR before extraction. Faint, skewed or low-resolution scans produce lower-confidence fields, so check those against the paper statement. Files can be up to 4.5 MB, and PDFs up to 100 pages.

Which banks does it support?

There are no bank-specific templates. The extractor reads each statement’s layout, so it is not limited to a fixed list of banks, but no layout is guaranteed. Convert one statement from each bank and account type you rely on and reconcile it before you batch the rest.

What does the Excel file contain?

The Excel workbook has an Extracted Data sheet with the account and summary fields, plus a Transactions sheet with one row per extracted transaction. Statements that combine several accounts get an extra sheet for each additional account’s transactions. You can also download a transactions-only CSV, a full field-by-field CSV, or JSON.

How accurate is the conversion?

We do not publish an accuracy percentage, because results depend on the statement’s layout and image quality. Each field comes back with a confidence score. Before importing, check that the beginning balance plus deposits minus withdrawals equals the ending balance, and that the transaction count matches the statement.

Do you keep my bank statement?

The uploaded file is processed in memory and is not stored after the request. For signed-in users, the extracted fields are saved so you can review and download them. They expire automatically (Free 7 days, Lite 30 days, Starter 60 days, Pro 90 days, Business 90 days), and you can delete them from the dashboard sooner. Full account numbers are reduced to their last four digits.
